for an Executive Director to serve as chief operating officer,
managing and overseeing the activities and operations in
retail-community-membership development under the direction of the
Board of Directors to aggressively promote economic growth through a
new commercial, service, and retail recruitment plan and
retention/expansion of existing businesses.

Requirements include:
- Bachelors degree in Marketing, Economics, Business, Planning, Public
Administration or related fields
- Minimum of three years management-level experience with another
development organization or Chamber, either as a director of a smaller
organization or as a department head of a larger one
- Experience working with boards or other governing bodies,
committees, and volunteers
- Proficient writing abilities and strong presentation/technological

Executive Director
The
community of Fort Dodge, IA is seeking an Executive Director to plan,
organize, and direct the operation of the Fort Dodge Area Chamber of
Commerce so as to insure the necessary investment in terms of both
manpower and money so that the Chamber may carry out its functions in
the field of economic development, community betterment, public
affairs, and organizational development; to serve as a membership
representative selling and promoting membership, making retention
calls to members, and collecting dues in order to strengthen the
Chamber's membership base; to implement the Chamber's communications
and public relations efforts to enhance its image; to assist the Board
of Directors in improving the effectiveness of the Chamber. He/She
must influence volunteer workers to cooperate in efforts toward goals
which they have determined to be beneficial. He/She must know how to
organize and motivate and be able to accomplish results in such a
manner that the credit goes to others. The Executive Director is
directly accountable to the Board of Directors.
Financial Responsibilities
Will prepare and present annual budget to the Board of Directors.
Will oversee the day-to-day control of expenditures.
Will provide the Board of Directors with monthly financial reports,
and any other information they request.
Will collect accounts receivable.
Will code and approve bills and requests for payments.
Membership
Responsibilities
Retain existing members.
Assist the Ambassadors in new member welcomes, ribbon cuttings, After
Hours, and other activities.
Make regular visits to existing members to express appreciation and
get feedback on the Chamber.
Implement comprehensive retention program that demonstrates the value
of Chamber membership throughout the year.
Promote Chamber membership and member benefits whenever possible
Recruit new members.
Sell Chamber memberships.
Coordinate membership campaigns to be conducted by volunteers and/or
the contract membership coordinator.
Direct recruitment activities throughout the year including personal
contacts.
Coordinate new member welcome activities.
Collect past due membership accounts, make calls and visits as needed
to collect past due memberships.
Communications and Public Relations
Assist the Program Director in writing the monthly newsletters,
Friday Fax, Member to Member Fax, and prepare articles for local
publications, when needed.
Schedule radio programs about the Chamber, as needed.
Develop effective ways to increase the Chamber's image, including
regular news releases, membership directory, etc.
Maintain close contact with outside agencies and organizations
including but not limited to, Mayor and City Council members, Board of
Supervisors, Webster County Development, School Officials,
Legislators, Members of Congress, leading business officials, etc.
Management of Chamber Programs, Events and Committees
Assist with developing the Business Plan for the Chamber, including
evaluation of existing committees, events, and programs.
Work with assigned committee chairs, volunteers, and members to
implement the Plan of Action (Ag Relations, Legislative Action,
Membership, Transportation, Public Relations, Leadership).
Provide advice and assistance in developing specifics strategies.
Follow-up on all details by working with volunteers and/or support
staff to carry out programs and projects.
Assist committee chairpersons and members to prepare for and plan
meeting agenda, including making sure notices are sent and meeting
arrangements are made.
Collect needed information for committee issues or projects.
Keep meeting minutes and committee records for assigned committees,
when needed.
Coordinate committee chairs reports each year for the November Board
meeting.
Coordinate Chamber events and activities as assigned annually.
Work with volunteers to plan.
Organize and follow-up on all details.
Do appropriate recognition of volunteers and staff upon completion.
Evaluate, with volunteers, once events are completed for improvements
or changes.
Manage assigned committees, events and programs within the budget.
Is responsible for the oversight of all other committee operations.
Will conduct official correspondence and preserve all books,
documents, and records.
Will deal with individual problems of Chamber members as they affect
the organization or the community as a whole.
Serve as corporate secretary for the Board of Directors.
Supervision of Support Staff
Supervise support staff as shown on organizational chart, including
training and development and conducting performance evaluations and
leading staff meetings.
Responsible for hiring, setting salaries, taking disciplinary action,
and termination decisions for all other personnel.

Position
Description:
The Grinnell Area Chamber of Commerce (270+ members) is seeking
an experienced person to serve as the President to lead the activities
and events of the organization, and the Grinnell Convention and
Visitors Bureau (CVB).
Qualified
candidates should have experience and knowledge in programs and
efforts to obtain new retail business for a community as well as
experience in leading Chamber of Commerce activities. This position is
responsible for the coordination of the Chamber program of work,
organizational structure and procedures, motivation of volunteers,
supervision of Chamber staff, Chamber membership, development of
non-dues income, and serve as the chair of the Convention and Visitors
Bureau activities.
Qualifications:
A Bachelors Degree in a related field including marketing,
business administration and/or a minimum of five years experience in
chamber work is preferred. This person must possess excellent verbal
and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, be
self-motivated, progressive thinking and innovative. This person must
have excellent interpersonal relationship skills and be able to work
closely with many different organizations within the community. Strong
marketing and business management experiences, as well as skills to
develop leads and bring in new retail businesses are preferred.
Experience in preparing and operating within a budget is expected.
Previous experience in retail recruitment is a definite plus. The
organization has an annual operating budget of $200,000.
